You will need a separate drive in order to play files larger than 4gb as you must use USBExtreme and it has it's own file format. Only way I have been able to play files over 4gb on the PS3. I'm using one external HDD for both PS2 and PS3 backups. I have my PS3 backup folders inside a GAMES folder and my PS2 backups in the root as required for USB loading. I've had no luck using OPL's ISO loading mode so I had to use USB Insane to install the games to the HDD in the USB Extreme format.
