Got one a few weeks ago when they were $99. Even then they were a bargin. It does everything I need it to do. I go hiking so the built in compass and way point maker/creator is good to find my way back to the car/base camp.

The logs can be uploaded to strava as a.gpx file or.kml for google earth. You can pre-make a path at home too then upload it to the watch, which seems like a good idea, though I haven't used it yet. I haven't really used the HRM but I assume it works the same way as other HRM.

You can set the watch to monitor the HRM for your 'fat burning zone'. It does have a steep learning curve mainly due to the instructions have just been translated from German (I think) so its in a weird sort of Engrish language. The button navigation is fairly easy to use on the watch itself and it can be programmed via the software that's downloaded from the internet. Battery life it says 16 hrs with the GPS on and 1 year with it off. Having said that I accidentally had the GPS on and tracking and it was still going after 24hrs, though it was very flat! One thing to remember, pressing the light button and view at the same time locks/unlocks the watch, which is good so you don't accidentally press buttons while walking, running, cycling. And if the battery is rechargeable or if there are replacements/is a common model There's some discussion over at the coolrunning forums – you might get more response as a few people there have it.

There was someone who posted about a week ago that they got it for $79 at Aldi Rosebud. My local Aldi didn't have any stock – which one did you see it for $70? Torrent flesh feast. Seems the GPS is ok, but can be patchy, but the watch has a rechargeable lithium ion battery and the HRM strap has a replaceable 3V CR2032 battery.

Edit- this is a review from some one at the coolrunning forum –. There's some discussion over at the coolrunning forums – you might get more response as a few people there have it. There was someone who posted about a week ago that they got it for $79 at Aldi Rosebud. Aldi South Melbourne.

It's about ¾ the size of Aldi Rosebud. I saw about 5 of them left with no prices, and asked the employee walking past. He said 'uhmm, it was 99, now down to 69.99'. Whether or not that's what the system says I do not know, but I will consider getting one if its still there on Wednesday when the NVG comes out. Seems the GPS is ok, but can be patchy, but the watch has a rechargeable lithium ion battery and the HRM strap has a replaceable 3V CR2032 battery. I don't understand why a chest strap would be needing power but alas.

I'm assuming the watch takes a sort of button cell Li-ion, in which case do they provide a charger? The reviews tend to be fairly good, but the main feature I'm looking at is the GPS on unit and the reviews tend to neglect that side and just talk about the GPS map tracking. All the HRM straps that pair with GPS watches need a battery for the RF or BT transmitter.

The watch itself has an in built lithium ion rechargeable which I don't believe is user replaceable. Someone posted that theirs lasted 24 hours or so, even though the specs say 16 hours with tracking on. You get a USB cable which has a clamp that clips on to the charging nodes on the watch.

It is more like the basic Garmin forerunners without a moving map or displaying your breadcrumb trail of where you've been, but just recording tracks/heart rate for later display. You can preprogram gpx trails and it looks like it will point you to the nearest waypoint in your preprogrammed trail, but that's about it by looking at it. I thought one of the reviews in the coolrunning forum had it compared with a smart phone app, and they did say the GPS was out by a bit in comparison. I did read another review elsewhere about the GPS reception, but I can't find that link now.
